are there things that you want to get better at but just don't know how or that you feel like no matter what you'll just never be good at do you start things and then give up because it just feels too hard these are really common things that many people feel unfortunately these also happen to be believes that will keep you from achieving your dreams and they will keep you feeling like you don't have control over your own life but just because most of the planet looks like this it doesn't have be that way for you the key to having more success confidence and happiness than you ever imagined possible not just in school and career but also in your friendships and romantic relationships and actually happen by using more of your brain so how do you do this the first key is to build strong Pathways and we'll talk about that in a minute the first have you heard of Einstein Mozart Bill Gates Jay-Z Michael Jordan Oprah even comedians like Seinfeld and Mindy Kaling what do they have in common Lancer talent and that's partially true but it's actually only a fraction of what really went on what all of those people actually have in common is that they spent way way way more hours practicing researching learning about that thing there how to achieve they did this more than all average people do that here's a deeper question what led them to keep trying and not give up and to put that much effort into begin with it was their mindset it was their belief about themselves and their belief did they had something really really special to share with the world that they weren't going to let anything stop them from sharing it did you know that Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team did you know that Einstein was called the dummy of the family when he was young or that is he was rejected by so many record labels that he had to start his own to be her why is that important because it means that when someone has that strong of a belief in themselves they will have the perseverance to do what it takes to achieve extraordinaire results even when they fail or get rejected over and over maybe you've heard that before but let's look at how this happens in the brain to give us an idea of how we can do this for ourselves each time you have a thought cells in the brain called neurons send postage let's take walking as an example the first time you were learning to walk you put one foot in front of the other ones you had to step that gave you good balance it meant that certain cells in your brain had sent pulses to each other to give you the exact movement you needed to make that stop what time you took another step and Mentos and cells were sending more pulses once you took enough steps the brain did something very special it covered the connection between those cells with a special white fat why does it do that because that white fat makes the signal School believe fast and make something automatic and this is how we learn pretty much everything when you walk now do you take time before each step to think about which leg to put first and how to move it no it's so hard wire now that you don't need to use any extra energy to think about and that's what happens when we practice something over and over we keep getting better and better that's the same process that made those hugely successful people stand out from the rest of the world they built the strongest Pathways for doing something they love those Pathways were not just about their skills but about their beliefs about themselves if you're not getting the results you want out of your life there's a good chance that you have some Pathways built up around negative beliefs about yourself just like with any ski you can also get really good at being negative once you had a negative thought like I'm not good at this or I'll never be anyone important enough time your brain will actually cover that pathway with the white fat and it becomes a belief this is a pathway. will keep you from doing what you need to do to get good at something the good news is that there are steps you can take to erase negative Pathways and build strong ones that give you the inspiration to do what it takes to get better at a sport school subject I got a friendship or getting better at controlling your anger there three key steps to doing this number one get clear about what you want to feel successful in and write these goals down with lots of detail right about them everyday number 2 everyday how you will feel once you achieve those goals the cool thing is that the brain actually doesn't know the difference between your imagination and what you actually do when you're visualizing your brain is sending exact signal that needs to help you achieve your goal number 3 take action every single day towards these goals even if it's just something small like looking at a YouTube about it or reading about it do something everyday keep a calendar and Mark and acts on each day that you do something towards your goals that how you build the kind of Pathways that lead you to huge success and make you stand out intention visualization and action the worksheet will
