About Our School

 

Visalia Charter Independent Study (VCIS) is a charter school focused on meeting the needs of students in grades 9-12 who desire a flexible approach to education. VCIS incorporates individual, yet structured, and blended learning approaches to meet the needs of each student.

 

All students receive a customized schedule based on individual need. They are assigned a credentialed teacher to meet with weekly who oversees their educational progress. Students take some classes on-site (once a week), with credentialed teachers. They also may work independently and work at their own pace.

VUSD's only Independent Study Program
As the only independent study program in Visalia Unified, we have the added benefit of support and expertise from a large district. This allows our students an easy transition to and from our program and a viable academic program.

UC Approved, WASC Accredited
VCIS has earned a six-year accreditation from the Western Association of Schools & Colleges (WASC). Our curriculum is UC and NCAA approved for those students interested in a four year college path.

Study Independently: On Campus or Online
VCIS is home to the only blended learning program in Tulare County. We offer a full spectrum of independent study courses plus a comprehensive online curriculum.

Electives Designed to Expand the Mind
We offer a wide variety of electives that are not only stimulating and challenging, but fun! Elective courses include a culinary pathway, performing arts, science and engineering, parenting, and much more.
